Winkler ONE is a single-component, liquid-applied waterproofing membrane for flat and low-slope roofs. It’s ideal for refurb overlays on aged felt/asphalt and for complex detailing around upstands, skylights and penetrations. With the correct primer and reinforcement, it forms a seamless, durable and UV-resistant system that can be built with anti-slip texture where foot traffic is expected.

1) Where Winkler ONE works best

  • Aged bitumen felt/asphalt refurb (sound, well-adhered substrates)
  • Concrete decks and gutters after proper preparation
  • OSB/plywood decks (stable, fixed, primed)
  • Complex details: upstands, outlets, internal/external corners, plant plinths

2) What you’ll need (map to your product listings)

  • Winkler ONE liquid membrane (main coats)
  • Winkler/compatible primer for the specific substrate (bitumen, concrete, timber, metal)
  • Reinforcement fabric/bandage for corners, cracks, changes of plane and around penetrations
  • Ultraflex Sealant (PU) for terminations and movement details
  • Roof edge/drip trims, outlets and fixings compatible with liquid systems
  • Optional anti-slip aggregate for walkways/balconies
  • Prep kit: cleaner/degreaser, rollers/brushes/squeegee, masking, measuring tools
  • PPE: gloves, eye protection, mask/respirator suitable for prep dust

3) Substrate checks (must pass before coating)

  • Soundness: Existing coverings must be firmly bonded. Remove blisters, loose laps and friable areas; make good.
  • Dryness & weather: Apply within temperature/humidity windows. Substrate must be dry and above dew point (no condensation).
  • Falls & drainage: Ensure working outlets; correct ponding where practical.
  • Cleanliness: Degrease, sweep and vacuum. Remove granules that are poorly adhered.

4) Preparation & priming

  1. Detail repairs: fix laps, fill holes, re-bed flashing chases where needed.
  2. Mask edges and sensitive areas. Pre-fit trims/outlets if the design requires.
  3. Apply the matching primer for your substrate at the stated coverage. Allow to dry within the overcoat window.

5) Reinforcement at details (illustration only)

  • Embed reinforcement fabric in a wet “stripe coat” of Winkler ONE at internal/external corners, around outlets/penetrations, across cracks and at changes of plane.
  • Lap reinforcement per the system guidance (typically 50–100 mm).

6) Main membrane coats

  1. First coat: Apply Winkler ONE by roller/brush (or squeegee then back-roll) to the specified wet-film thickness. Work in lanes; avoid puddling.
  2. Second coat: After the first coat cures within the recoat window, apply a cross-rolled second coat to achieve the total dry-film thickness.
  3. Anti-slip (optional): While the first or second coat is wet (as specified), broadcast fine/medium aggregate to refusal; de-flute and encapsulate with a finishing pass.

7) Terminations & joints

  • Seal terminations with a Sealant and/or mechanically secure with termination bars into chases as designed.
  • Movement joints must be detailed with compatible sealants/bandages—do not rigidly bridge active joints.

8) Curing & return to service

  • Protect from rain, dust and foot traffic until cured. Respect minimum/maximum overcoat windows between coats.
  • Re-open progressively: inspection → light foot traffic → full service, per data sheet and ambient conditions.

9) QA checks & common pitfalls

  • Pinholes/holidays: Usually from thin application—measure WFT/DFT and re-coat locally.
  • Poor adhesion: Almost always prep/primer related—improve cleaning, choose correct primer and re-test a small area.
  • Dew-point issues: Condensation causes blushing/fish-eyes—check substrate temperature vs. dew point before coating.
  • Ponding: Heavy standing water can stress any coating—design for drainage wherever possible.

10) Maintenance

  • Clean periodically with neutral detergents; keep outlets clear.
  • Inspect high-wear areas (walkways, plant bases) and re-coat when wear indicators show.
