Rescryl is a high-performance, liquid-applied car park coating system for top decks, intermediate levels, basements and ramps. When applied in the correct sequence with the right accessories, it delivers seamless waterproofing, crack-bridging, anti-slip traction and chemical/abrasion resistance suitable for UK car parks. This overview shows a typical application approach.

1) Where Rescryl is commonly applied

  • Top (exposed) decks: Waterproof, UV-resistant finishes that resist weathering and de-icing salts.
  • Intermediate levels: Flexible builds with tough wearing layers.
  • Basement decks: Options for damp-tolerant priming and robust non-slip finishes.
  • Ramps & turning zones: Heavier aggregate broadcasts for high traction.
  • Pedestrian walkways & bays: Colour-coded zones and line marking.

2) Typical application sequence (illustration only)

  1. Substrate preparation: Shot-blast/diamond grind; remove laitance, coatings and contaminants. Repair spalls and cracks with compatible mortars. Honour movement joints.
  2. Moisture control (if needed): Apply an epoxy moisture suppressant or damp-tolerant primer where residual moisture is present, following the data sheet.
  3. Primer: Apply the matched Rescryl primer for the substrate (concrete/asphalt/metal). Lightly seed quartz into wet primer if a mechanical key is required.
  4. Elastomeric base/membrane: Stripe-coat and reinforce details (joints, corners, penetrations). Apply the membrane to the stated wet-film thickness (WFT).
  5. Wearing course: Apply the heavy-duty Rescryl coat and broadcast graded quartz to refusal to achieve the target slip resistance.
  6. Topcoat/sealer: Encapsulate aggregate with a UV-stable Rescryl finish (matt/gloss) for cleanability and durability.
  7. Line marking: Apply compatible Rescryl colours for bays, walkways and symbols.

3) Area-by-area pointers

Area Application focus Notes
Top deck Waterproof base → quartz wearing course → UV topcoat Prioritise waterproofing, UV stability and de-icing salt resistance.
Intermediate Crack-bridging base → durable wearing course Balance flexibility with abrasion resistance.
Basement Moisture control (if needed) → resilient build Consider damp-tolerant primer and ventilation/condensation risks.
Ramps/turning Heavy aggregate broadcast → higher DFT topcoat Target higher wet pendulum values for traction.

4) Curing & return to service

  • Apply within temperature/humidity limits; check dew point to avoid condensation.
  • Reopen in stages: inspection → pedestrian → vehicular, following product cure times.

5) QA checks & common pitfalls

  • Poor bond: Usually prep/contamination—improve mechanical preparation and cleanliness.
  • Low traction: Insufficient/incorrect aggregate—adjust grade and loading to meet the slip target.
  • Pinholes/holidays: Thin films—measure WFT/DFT and re-coat locally.
  • Missed overcoat window: Abrade and re-prime per data sheet before continuing.
