Felt Adhesive is a solvent-based, cold-applied bituminous adhesive formulated to provide a secure and durable bond between successive layers of roofing felt. Application Overview
Surface Preparation
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from oil, dust, dirt and loose debris.
- Remove moss, algae and fungal growth with a stiff brush and treat with a suitable fungicide.
- Porous concrete surfaces should be primed with a compatible bituminous primer and allowed to dry fully.
Application Method
- Apply Felt Adhesive evenly by brush, mop or squeegee.
- Allow the adhesive to dry for approximately 15–30 minutes until tacky (depending on conditions).
- Lay the roofing felt into the adhesive and press firmly to ensure full contact.
- Where possible, use a light roller (15–25kg) to remove trapped air and ensure a strong bond.
Overlap Guidelines
- Side overlaps: minimum 75mm
- End overlaps: minimum 150mm
- Apply additional adhesive beneath overlaps to ensure a watertight seal.
Timber Decks
- The first layer of felt must be mechanically fixed in accordance with BS 8217:1994.
- Subsequent layers can be bonded using Felt Adhesive.
- After 24 hours, inspect laps and re-press or re-roll any areas where adhesion is incomplete.

Cleaning & Safety
- Clean tools with white spirit before the adhesive sets.
