Flexcrete Polymer Admixture 850 – Sealer and Bonding Agent
Flexcrete Polymer Admixture 850 is a water-based copolymer dispersion designed to modify sand and cement mortars, enhancing their mechanical and durability characteristics. It can also be used as a primer and bonding agent for polymer mortars, renders and screeds, including applications on waterproof concrete and highly porous substrates. The product is WRAS Approved and suitable for use in contact with potable water.
Polymer Admixture 850 improves adhesion to concrete and steel in dry, damp and permanently wet conditions while helping to increase compressive and tensile strength, abrasion resistance and resistance to water penetration. It also provides enhanced resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, alkalis and dilute acids.

Application Guidance
For use as a primer on highly porous or absorbent substrates, the manufacturer specifies a slurry consisting of 1 part Polymer Admixture 850, 1 part water and 2 parts ordinary Portland cement. The prepared substrate should be pre-dampened and the slurry applied as a thin coat, with a stated coverage of approximately 10–15 m² per litre of Polymer Admixture 850. The slurry should be allowed to become dull before continuing with the application.
For drinking-water applications, Polymer Admixture 850 is diluted 1:1 with clean water and applied by brush or roller at 5–7 m² per litre, allowing the primer to become clear before proceeding.
When producing polymer-modified mortars and screeds, the manufacturer recommends mechanical mixing using a forced-action pan mixer or drill and paddle. A normal concrete mixer is not suitable. The product should be shaken before use, and the minimum additional water necessary to achieve the required workability should be used. A water-to-cement ratio below 0.4 is advised.
Mortars and screeds can be applied in layers of up to 50 mm, with subsequent layers applied when the previous layer is hardened but not fully cured. The datasheet recommends following normal concreting procedures and protecting the finished material from strong sunlight and drying winds during curing.
The manufacturer's technical data provides suggested trial mix ratios for different applications, including screeds, render mortar, patching mortar and heavy-duty mortar. Trial mixes should be carried out to determine the optimum consistency and physical properties for the intended application.
