Mapecrete U-Protector – Water-Repellent & Protective Concrete Treatment
Mapecrete U-Protector is a water-based surface treatment for protecting new and existing concrete floors. It provides a water-repellent and anti-stain effect while helping improve the durability, abrasion resistance and cleanability of the treated surface.
Suitable for internal and external concrete floors, including natural, polished and sanded concrete as well as Ultratop cementitious flooring systems, Mapecrete U-Protector penetrates the surface and forms a protective microfilm. It helps reduce dust formation, staining and efflorescence while maintaining water-vapour permeability.

Application & Coverage
Mapecrete U-Protector is supplied ready to use and should simply be stirred before application. The concrete substrate must be clean, dry and free from dust, contaminants, previous protective treatments, resin coatings and loose or friable material.
For new concrete floors or Ultratop, application can generally begin 2–3 days after casting. The product is sprayed onto the surface using a low-pressure pump. A second coat can be considered after approximately 2–6 hours, depending on conditions. Once dry, typically after 6–12 hours, the surface is polished using a high-speed polishing machine to form the protective microfilm.
The stated consumption is 0.05–0.40kg/m², depending on the porosity and absorption of the substrate and environmental conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Mapecrete U-Protector used for?
It is used to protect concrete and cementitious floors against water penetration, staining, dust formation, efflorescence and general surface wear.
2. Can Mapecrete U-Protector be used on polished concrete?
Yes. It is suitable for natural, polished and sanded concrete, as well as polished or Terrazzo-effect Ultratop flooring. On polished surfaces, the product should be applied after all polishing operations have been completed.
3. How much Mapecrete U-Protector do I need?
Coverage varies significantly with substrate absorption. Mapei specifies approximately 0.05–0.40kg/m². A porous concrete floor will generally require more product than a dense, low-absorption surface.
4. How is Mapecrete U-Protector applied?
It is normally sprayed using a low-pressure pump. Depending on the substrate and application, a second coat may be applied after 2–6 hours. Once dry, the surface is polished with a high-speed polishing machine to create the protective microfilm.
5. Does Mapecrete U-Protector make concrete easier to maintain?
Yes. The treatment reduces dust formation and helps resist staining and efflorescence, making the treated flooring easier to clean and maintain.
