OVERVIEW OF THE PROBLEM

Resimac was approached by TATA Steel Europe in March 2015

All UK sites were having major issues with aging coke ovens

Erosion at the Pullman Valve neck was causing high concentration of gas emissions on the plant.

The UK GOVERNMENT Environment Agency was putting pressure on the UK plants to reduce the gas emissions from their sites.

• The thinning of the cast iron wall at the valve neck was causing leaks
• Sites were sealing the leaks by filling pre-formed collars with hot bitumen
• Repairs were only lasting 5-6 weeks before they would need sealing again
• TATA Steel, Port Talbot asked Resimac to develop a long term solution

- a high temperature resistant sealer - must be pourable - repair must last at least 6 months

THE RESIMAC SOLUTION

Development of a 100% solids 2 component pourable silicon

RESICHEM 580 CAST AND SEAL

• Surface preparation is mechanical grinding
• Repair surface washed with a 1 component adhesion promoter
• Pre-formed collar fitted around valve neck
• Bottom edge of collar is sealed with packings to stop any leakage
• Resichem 580 Cast and Seal is poured into the collar
• Minimum thickness is 100mm, maximum 250mm
• Cure of the material will be 20-25 minutes at 80C

TATA STEEL EUROPE LTD - APPROVAL

Resichem 580 Cast and Seal has been approved for all TATA sites in Europe.

All UK coke oven sites have been instructed to use RESICHEM 580 Cast and Seal for Pullman valve neck collar repairs.

TATA STEEL EUROPE have instructed all UK sites that Resichem 580 Cast and Seal is the ONLY product to be used for these repairs.

TATA STEEL EUROPE have tested the 580 CAST AND SEAL system for 6 months.

The repairs carried out have worked with no failures.
